Too often we are hard on ourselves and feel bad
about our lack of progress. We feel guilty that we have missed a couple of opportunities,
our progress in achieving our goals are hindered or that we made a really
terrible decision. But, that’s like looking at the glass as half empty, and it
is almost guaranteed to hinder your progress towards your goal.
Look
at the glass as half full — look back and see what you’ve done so far, and
feel proud of your progress. Be happy about how far you’ve come even if you
have a long way to go yet.
Take
the life of a great man like Thomas Edison for instance. There were plenty of
times he tried in making the electric bulb but failed, if he had looked back at
the number of time he failed and felt guilty, he would have simply given up. However,
he did not let that discourage him; he continued his trials till he got his
result.
The
key is to sit back, relax and look at what you have done. You can start by
saying to yourself: “Sure, I missed some workouts, but look at how many I’ve
done! Instead of beating yourself up, celebrate your success, no matter how
small!
We
will always feel guilty about what we haven’t done, but it is important that we
remind ourselves that it is only a temporary setback. Learn to tell
yourself that it’s just a small bump on a long road.
